Ravenea rivularis

This palm is a newcomer in the palm scene. Nevertheless, it's becoming incredibly popular, mainly because of its attractive appearance with its delicate green leaves and thick trunk, but also due to its rapid growth. It comes from Madagascar, where it can be found in swampy areas at an altitude up to 600m (1800 feet). It requires plenty of water, fertile soil and plenty of fertilizer to maintain its appearance, colour and growth rate. It thrives in tropical to temperate climate zones and is not very frost-tolerant. It is well to keep in cool conditions. It can also be kept as a house plant as long as it gets enough light.

The light requirements of the plant is somewhat greater than that of Howea forsteriana. It is relatively straightforward in terms of light and temperature.:15 to 20 ° C makes it happy, but it will tolerate temperatures down to 0 ° C (and maybe even a little lower if it has rooted well).
