Ribes nigrum Ojebyn

This blackcurrant produces prolific amounts of juicy, acidic black berries. This 'Ojebyn' variety produces high yields. The shrub is vigorous, hardy and resistant to downy mildew. Öjebyn is probably the tastiest varieties of blackcurrant and surely the least bitter.
This grows best in a sunny position. Although you can repot the whole year, the best period is from October to March; in this period the plants take well, their need for water after re-planting is low or even zero. Although blackcurrants grow easily, they prefer not to be wet. A good rule to remember: if water does not drain after a rain shower, then your ground is probably too wet for this blackcurrant!
Plant 50cm to 1m (1.5-3feet) apart, a little closer if you plant to train your plants to complement, say, a hedge.
